The center of the composition is dominated by a raised, horizontally layered ridge of paint. Like the foaming crest of a wave or the reflective edge of the horizon, the white and turquoise relief cuts through the verticals of the background. Scraping and layering the paint creates refractions of light reminiscent of reflections on water at night and the eternal rhythm of ebb and flow. “Welle” captures the fleeting moment between rearing up and coming to rest. A powerful, meditative work that blurs the boundaries between the oceanic, light, and shaped materiality.
