With the painting “Confusion,” the work captures the feeling of being torn inside and of a labyrinth of thought. The picture plane divides into two worlds: a broad frame applied with a palette knife in soft blues, and a tension-charged, graphic center. In the four corners of the painted frame, gold squares with dark dabs of paint set structured accents – like markers on a game board or anchors of order. The center, by contrast, breaks out into sharp diagonals. Dark, almost impetuous shades of color and fine, light interstices overlap with luminous slashes of gold that cut through the confusion like sudden flashes of insight.
The light blue border is painted and part of the work.
